WITNESS TALK - KATHY MAKARSKI |

My husband and I moved to Middleboro 20 years ago with our three children. This was a huge move for us all. We acknowledged that our lives would change dramatically. We were moving from the city to the country, with new schools, new house, new friends to deal with. My son Robert had been preparing for his first Holy Communion at St. Edward's since September of 1984. We were to move in Feb 1985. My first contact with Middleboro was Sister Rose Helen of our Sacred Heart Parish. She invited me into the kitchen where she was preparing dinner, while I explained to her about our moving, and the fact that Robert was making his First Communion. I felt that with all the changes in my children's life, that they would need something that would be familiar to them and us as a family. I knew that with the move from St Edward's to Sacred Heart Parish our surrounding church would change, but our faith would still be the same, our prayers would be the same, and the ritual of the Mass would still be the same. ***She welcomed us on behalf of Sacred Heart with open arms*** I believe that God puts people, places, and things in our life at the times when they are needed most to help guide us through uncertain times. My parish keeps me grounded in a world that changes from one moment to the next. The sense of belonging to something bigger than myself helps to keep me humble. It is easy for me to be full of myself, and coming to Mass is a certain way of keeping me in touch with the things that are most important. Church
is where I can literally leave my troubles at the door and take the time
to refresh myself spiritually. |
